TANDER DESIGN is a lighting and product design studio driven by a strong passion for technology and process driven design innovation.

The studio strives to design from as well as utilize advances in technology, manufacturing and material research, to expand and further the utility of lighting and other physical products, within the context of our age characterized by digital evolution. In this the emphasis on design methodology, from the past into the future, provides a strong substructure for its projects, highlighting the reciprocal relationship between design and its practical application. This approach by TANDER DESIGN forms a Synthesis dedicated to progress, evolving conceptual clarity and technical feasibility as one.

The core of the studios current practice revolves around lighting design and the challenge and complexity inherent in holistically designing the phenomenon of artificially generated electric light through a physical product. In this TANDER DESIGN approaches lighting as an atmospheric medium of progress, through the perspective of an engineered system, translating the intangible qualities of illumination into innovative forms of lighting.

The studio was founded by Peer Alexander Assmann, who graduated as a product designer from the University of Arts Berlin, following a previous background in aerospace engineering. The studio integrates expertise in product development for production, Digital design workflows, lighting technology and electrical engineering, additive and subtractive fabrication, as well as professional experience in technical model making and prototype construction. This technical depth supports a practice that balances engineering logic with design receptivity and creative determination.
